Aura Fundació a la seu de l'ONU de Nova York
It is our pleasure to announce that AURA has been selected to participate in the World Down Syndrome Day Conference at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City on Wednesday the 21st of March, 2018.
Gloria Canals will speak on behalf of AURA, the only Supported Employment programme invited from Spain. AURA will be amongst the attendees, as well as people with Down syndrome, their supporters and advocates, senior representatives of major employers, experts in the field of disability employment, and government and UN oficials.
AURA, has been a pioneer in the field of supported employment. Founded in 1989, it was the first Supported Employment program in Spain dedicated to finding social and job placement services for people with intellectual disabilities.
AURA will be representing Spain and Europe, leading the way in Supported Employment and speaking about the benefits of employing people with Down Syndrome, innovative programmes, as well as individual case studies from AURA participants. It is an honour to be invited to participate and to be recognised on an International level.
Without all the people who support us, it would not be possible, so … Thank you!
WDSD Conference 2018
The World Down Syndrome Day Conference is an international conference held at United Nations Headquarters on or as close as possible to World Down Syndrome Day, organised by Down Syndrome International and sponsored each year by Permanent Missions of UN Member States and international agencies and non-governmental organisations. The Conference has a theme each year, which broadly aims to advance the human rights of persons with Down syndrome and disabilities, utilising the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UN CRPD) and other human rights instruments. Speakers comprise a wide cross section from countries around the world and include professionals, advocates and self-advocates.
For further information on the UN CRPD visit the UN Enable website.
“What I bring to the workplace”
On Wednesday 21 March 2018, Down Syndrome International will bring together people with Down syndrome, their supporters and advocates, senior representatives of major employers, experts in the field of disability employment, government and UN officials at United Nations Headquarters, New York.
Our aim is to reach out to key employment stakeholders to ensure they see the benefits of enabling people with Down syndrome and disabilities to make meaningful contributions in the workplace; then encourage these stakeholders to help us bring about positive change.
Through a mix of panel discussion, case studies, testimonies and interactive Q&A with all delegates, we hope all who attend (or watch on UN Web TV) will be challenged and inspired to take action to ensure the inclusion of a substantial section of the world’s population who are ready, willing and able to work.
